On the first day of spring, people who showed up Orrick Herrington & Sutcliff, LLP on March 19, 2008 for the 106 Miles event only to be turned away that the event was cancelled can start fresh in knowing that at least he/she was able to walk around the block and get some exercise. He/she was able to look into the firm and see that the cafeteria was closed meaning perhaps people did not have to work very late.
On the first day of spring, people can promise again to only live for Today, without the worries of Tomorrow or the guilt of what happened Yesterday. Yesterday, the person may have stolen cups and lids, or done some unlawful deed like Eliot Spitzer, but instead of criticizing someone for what they did in the past, or trying to understand something that cannot be explained, just take the moment as it is. Maybe each moment is as it should be.
On the first day of spring, a person can vow again not to be greedy, to steal, to get easily angry, to have so much hate, to not be careful on what he/she eats or drinks. An attorney can know about the habits that are not lawful, but at a moment of disrespect, jealousy, anger, he/she may not react purely. Look at the California Lawyer or a bar journal to see the attorneys who get written up or who lose their licenses. Were they able to control their behaviors, or were they just being humans – humans who cannot help but make mistakes. Let everyone be forgiven on the first day of spring.
