Around the World in Silicon Valley took the International Forum Silicon Valley Salon to Mango Carribean on February 27, 2008 to discuss Jamaica.
The servers at Mango Carribean were nice to rearrange chairs and tables for the group to socialize. The menu included Reggae Wrap, composed of Jerk chicken, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cilantro and cheese. Though guests said the dish tasted good, it was not authentic in that avocados in Jamaica were rare. Then again, there is always an American mix to any kind of food.
Two guests to the group actually traveled to Jamaica and knew of how to evaluate another guest’s mock Jamaican accent. The official language of Jamaica is English, and the two guests from Jamaica indicated that Jamaican Patois sounded like English to them. Jamaica is an island in the Caribbean Sea. The estimated population as of July 2005 was 2,651,000.
