One movie was on diversity in the legal profession. Diversity at law firms is important because it is important to corporations, especially those who have international operations or clients who want a diverse workforce. Corporations want legal teams that are reflective of their business.
According to the movie, people are a combination of their life experiences. Diversity means having people with different life experiences. Diversity matters for perspectives. However, an organization cannot be made inclusive until it recognizes that it has a problem, and there is initiative or incentive to solve the problem. Inclusion means a welcoming environment where people go and stay.
There was a comment that the attorney profession seems to be the second to last profession that is diverse. Much of it has to do with recruitment of students to go to law school while they are in high school. The profession has an obligation to reflect what society looks like to demonstrate it is fair and open.
