In the press last week was the announcement of Governor Schwarzenegger appointing Lucy Koh to Santa Clara County Superior Court. She had an interview write up in an Asian bar association newsletter published in late 2007, where it was revealed that she aimed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Randolf Rice. Koh is a Democrat. The compensation for the position is said to be $178,789.
Koh, age 39, has been a partner at McDermott, Will and Emery since 2002. Some may have met her while attending MCLE events at McDermott. Prior to McDermott, her bio read that she was a senior associate at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati from 2000 to 2002 and an assistant U.S. attorney in the major frauds section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Central District of California from 1997 to 2000. The press also reported that from 1996 to 1997, Koh was a special assistant to the U.S. Deputy Attorney General in Washington, D.C. and special counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice from 1994 to 1996. She graduated from Harvard Law School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard-Radcliffe Colleges.
