Mitchell Report
The buzz today in the morning drive is the Mitchell Report.  For those into baseball, they may know that this is the report of former senator and federal prosecutor George Mitchell.

The Mitchell Report is a 20 month investigation on steroid and other performance-enhancing drug use in Major League Baseball.  There was on Thursday, December 13, 2007, a special news conference being held at The report named at least 50 MLB players, some of them very high profile.

How might the Mitchell Report affect the baseball and sports business? Baseball and sports are big business.  Those going to a Stanford University or college game may not see the business first hand as a spectator, but a lot goes into the preparation of the game.  It begins with marketing to get the audience to come.  Then there is training of customer service, including legal training to make sure that the guest services teams properly handle harassment issues, guests with disabilities, and complaints.

The guest experience is what brings people back to future games.  If players are using enhancing drugs, what they see as star performance, may not be true human performance.  This brings up ethical issues on who the actual winner is.  The news on Barry Bonds and other players caught in the negative publicity goes to show that life has its ups and downs.  There is no need to be jealous of other people’s successes because they may not always stay afloat.  A person who makes riches may not be able to enjoy the riches and praise if he/she does not obtain them ethically.  A person who may not hit the top, but acts ethically in performance will get to enjoy any riches without the legal troubles.
