On November 6, 2007, the Association of Corporate Counsel hosted a seminar in Palo Alto, CA on the issues facing ecommerce 2.0.  Speaker Scott R. Shipman, Senior Counsel at eBay, Inc. spoke about the issues that will arise with new technology that collect personal information, and the information people disclose on the Internet.

Some companies like eBay only limit receiving contact information to when it is needed to close a transaction.  PayPal, for instance, links to bank and credit card accounts.  PayPal allows people to shop without sharing their bank and credit card information.  They only need the other party’s information in order to transfer payment information to them. 

Privacy issues will arise with youth who engage in social networking by disclosing their personal information without understanding the long term consequences.  Some people put their personal journals and private information online.  Everything stored on the Internet is out there forever. 

RFID tags are unique and will offer a way to collect more and more information from people such as their purchases, when they purchase, where they take items, etc.
