It seems that in almost every occupation, there is a pressure to win. Does the pressure to win drive people to cheat? In an interview of an attorney by the ACC Docket in September 2007, the attorney said it best when he stated that people should not be pressured to stay at their jobs by anything, even money. By not feeling the need to be attached to something, they will likely work more ethically and follow their values because they are able to walk away at anytime. In every job, an attorney needs to be able to speak up to the board or executives when he/she sees that decision making may not be right, and then be willing to resign if he/she is not able to resolve the situation after speaking up.
By being able to walk away at any time, perhaps there will be less of a need to engage in activities such as spying on the competition. It seems that spying is common practice in business not just sports. Think of all those people who register for trade shows of their competitors just to be able to go in to see the demonstrations of new products, or to review marketing materials of competitors in order to discuss the flaws.
What should the rules of the game really be in order to promote an ethical business?
