To make export enforcement a priority, on commercial and military items, the United States government announced a new program to the detect and prosecute violations of the export control laws. A new task force consisting of all law enforcement and intelligence agencies has been formed to investigate military and dual-use technologies. Export prosecutions have increased by 50 percent in fiscal year 2007.
President George W. Bush authorized increases in penalties from $50,000 to $250,000 per violation. The International Emergency Economic Powers Enhancement Act increases the monetary penalties for civil and criminal violations contained in the original International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
All companies that deliver product or technology outside of the United States are subject to export controls. United States has one of the world’s toughest export control laws so if a company complies with United States laws, it is likely to comply with the export laws of other countries.
