Thousands of United Auto Workers walked off the job at General Motors plants around the country this week in another buzz topic.  It was the first nationwide strike against the U.S. auto industry since 1976.  Was it the right thing to do at this time in history?  It seems that U.S. cars are not as popular as many European and Japanese manufacturers.  In China, for instance, there are not many U.S. cars on the streets.  In China, major cities boast over 5 million people.  The visitor sees Honda, Mercedes, and even Volkswagen all over China, where the population is plenty, but not many U.S. cars. 

Why did the auto workers strike?  What should be the response when workers strike?  In an employment law book, there might be a chapter on labor and union laws.  The worker may strike as pressure for more benefits and to balance the power between management and employees. 

Will the strike affect other auto makers in the industry?
