A letter was sent from Chairman Bobby Rush of the Consumer Protection Subcommittee to the Federal Trade Commission during the week of July 16, 2007.  The letter requested a private briefing on the Google, Inc. – DoubleClick, Inc. merger review.  The merger raises issues on privacy, online advertising competition.  The House of Representatives is likely going to have a hearing on the issues in September 2007.

On the topic of privacy, those attorneys using Spoke to find business contacts may be interested to know that somehow Spoke is able to get entire company employee directories into its databases.  Isn’t this a theft of trade secrets or somehow a violation of confidentiality obligations – at least some party is involved in disclosing company employment data to Spoke without permission from the companies whose employee names are listed.  On its web site says it gets its data from:  publicly available information, information that is privately owned and is not available to the general public, but is available for redistribution, contributed information, information that is assembled, aggregated, or associated from one or more sources described above.  People who do not want their information to be published in Spoke better be careful when joining a professional society, subscribing to a magazine, or RSVPing to a seminar.
