Jangl was started in 2005. For those in the need of a temporary phone number for privacy reasons, Jangl allows people to obtain a free number. This type of service may be helpful for those who deal with strangers, such as buyers and sellers on eBay or responding to blind ads, where they are not able to trust strangers with their personal information, not even a cell phone number, initially.
The user sends an email to the person he/she is trying to reach. The responding party gets a link via email and clicks the link to get a phone number to call back, without ever knowing a person’s real number. The responding party can leave voice messages that Jangl will send to an email box. If someone decides he/she no longer wants to talk to another person anymore, he/she can do so without ever feeling any unease about being stalked by someone in the future. If someone wants to continue communications, he/she can get a number to call someone back and forward the calls to his/her own phone.
