What does privacy in the digital age mean knowing Google is storing user information for two years as it indexes information for search? This may mean that people can blog nasty comments about others, and those comments would be stored for the world to see even when that person has long changed his/her character to be someone else.
What about Google’s new map service which allows people to see the actual streets and homes? This may be a disturbance for the homeowner who likes to have privacy. People will have not only their addresses revealed to the stranger, but also the color of their homes, their gardens, and perhaps the type of car they drive if they happen to park it up front. No matter how people want to hide their identities with PO Boxes in other cities, their photos may be on the web for others to download and email around the world.
Some people may ask why be so secret? These people may not understand the needy who stalk or obsess over others who have long journeyed to different stages in their lives, or who do not really want to know someone. Should Google have any legal consequences when someone may be attacked or harassed as a result of people searches? Is privacy possible with Google’s growth and digital power?
