The following is not meant to be legal advice.
Harassment is not limited to sexual harassment. Statements or actions that ridicule someone because of race, ancestry, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status, military service obligation, or any other protected characteristic are offensive. Perhaps someone can file suit for harassment even for being poked fun of for being single? A complete list of offensive conduct might not be possible, but provide examples in the company policy against harassment such as using epithets or slurs; offensive jokes or pranks; circulating offensive material by e-mail.
The company should strongly encourage the prompt reporting of all incidents of discriminatory harassment. The company should promptly investigate any reports of harassment. Confidentiality will be maintained throughout the investigation as much as possible, but should not be promised.
