Dating for Dummies by Joy Browne may be a book to read when learning how to obtain better relationships, not just in the romantic sense.  The book not only discusses how to get a date, but also how to deal with stress, and how to stay safe when talking to strangers.

On safety, it advises not to let people into private places such as the name of a work place, home address, or even entire real name.  However, there is a balance in keeping personal information confidential because not knowing too much about someone is a turn off in that there is little trust and less of a need to continue discussing anything with someone when that person may not offer anything beneficial.
