On May 22, 2007 Baker & McKenzie LLP sponsored a talk on M & A developments in China. The talk began after a Chinese meal, and the giveaway of free chop sticks.
The discussions involved an index of M & A regulations, including details of merger control filings, project flow processes, and government approvals needed.
The speakers, which included Jay Clemens from eBay, Inc. said the main drivers of change in China were the protection of national economic security. Those up on current events may know that there has been much discussion on the value of the U.S. dollar as compared to the currency in China. There were several powerpoint slides on pricing and what was considered fair, along with the forms of payments.
The panelists also went into details on the investment categories, which included prohibited, encouraged, restricted, and permitted catalogues. They discussed how MOFCOM reporting came into play.
