King spoke personally about the lessons she learned in marriage, and relationships. Though her marriage to a former Boalt Hall student Larry King ended, she said that he encouraged her to be more aware of women’s rights and not to keep secrets. She said that even though Title IX provides adaptive protection to females, there was still much to be done because women sports are still lower funded then programs for men. Schools can not comply with Title IX when there is a lack of interest in sports by females. She spoke about playing Wimbleton in 1975 with a fever because she could not change the date. She said she did not regret not having children because there were so many children she could help out. She spoke about how she came out as a lesbian, and how she wanted to make sure her parents accepted that before they passed because family was the core for strength.
