The selecting of personnel may involve testing the candidates to ensure that they are right for the job. Tests include structured interviews, work samples, references, assessments.
Job descriptions provide a foundation for test selection. To identify tests, the attorney working in employment laws might consider Pantesting, a web based system for distributing tests.
In determining if tests are effective, the employer should do more than one method of testing to find inconsistencies in the results. For example, compare and contrast results from resumes, interviews, mental abilities tests, references, personality tests.
One example of a test for potential managers is the In-Basket test where the candidate pretends he/she just came back from vacation, and is given a pile of mail. The candidate is asked how he/she would distribute the mail. Another example of a test is the scrabble game test where potential employees are asked to play a game of scrabble to assess their leadership skills.
