Diane Andreozzi, who teaches adult school, gave a talk in
Andreozzi emphasized walking through grief as fast as possible in order to get over grief. Denial does not make a loss go away. A person needs time to heal just as a wound or a break in skin does. Scars remind people of something that happen to them, but over time, the hurt is not as painful.
Unlike death, there is not usually a ritual for other types of losses. In other losses, there may still be a relationship that needs to be continued. For instance, people who lose their jobs may have to work again with the same workers at other companies some day, or they may run into the same people in the industry.
Andreozzi recommended several books on grief, including Decembered Grief by Harold Ivan Smith. Smith wrote the book when a mother died. It is about grieving during the holidays.
