Stress Free for Good by Dr. Fred Luskin of
The last technique is to accept what one cannot change. The authors analogize life’s bad circumstances such as a man leaving a woman without child support to a traffic jam. One cannot move or change the situation. There is no where to go except to accept the jam even though one may be late for an appointment, or has other plans in life. The only thing that can be changed in such circumstances is one’s attitude or reaction towards the jam. One can get angry or calmly wait out the situation. In the end, one must accept that the situation cannot change. It is in the past. Trying to control a situation that cannot be controlled only leads to needless suffering.
