On January 3, 2007, CNET hosted the January 2007 meeting of the San Francisco New Tech Meetup.  Speakers included representatives of a product called Mile Tracker.  The product may be of interest to attorneys looking for a program to track their expenses for expense reports and tax deductions.  The program costs $29/year.  It is an online application for calculating mileage and recording expenses for expense reports and tax deductions.  The speakers made known that their company had a pending patent for the online application.  The front end is built in Web 2.0.  The program gets the user’s mileage for trips and saves the addresses so that when the reports are presented to the Internal Revenue Service of a user’s employer, there is a record of the mileage calculations.  The program has Internal Revenue Service rates which other map programs such as Yahoo! does not.  The program has fields to enter toll, parking, and other related expenses.  The developers have a background in cartography and many came from other companies that specialize in maps such as Yahoo!.  The company partners with CRM companies such as Salesforce.com, and sees its users coming from its partners.  The company is not yet funded, and sees revenues generated from consumers.
