Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren advises people to use daily reflection to bring about growth. Growth comes from people taking themselves out of their comfort zones to change before they need to voluntarily. Every change involves a loss of some kind. People become whatever they are committed to. To change life, one must change the way one thinks. Character development comes from focusing on others instead of the self.
Every problem in life has a purpose. Give thanks to the purpose rather than focus on the pain. To defeat wrongdoings or self-centered thoughts, recognize the pattern for the thoughts and refocus attention on something else. Do not fight the thought. Get interested in another idea so that the thought gets is lost in the mind. Reveal struggles to a friend or support group so that hurt is not intensified by any hiding. Avoid tempting situations, and realize new habits take time to develop.
