For the attorney who might need to make a court appearance, here are some guidelines using the Alameda County, CA probate court as an example.  The probate court in Alameda County located in Oakland, CA, is in the administrative building.  When appearing in court, the attorney should bring along the case file, not just the papers relating to the appearance.

The attorney needs to sign and fill out an appearance slip prior to entering the court.  The attorney should take note of the court’s holidays for future appearances and court visits.  After signing in, the attorney should look at a list to see if he/she needs to see a paralegal.  The attorney will find out the line number of the case on the list.

If the attorney does not need to see a paralegal, the court will already have the file.  If the attorney needs to see a paralegal, the attorney will get the file and bring it to court.
