On January 3, 2007, the founders of Comicvine.com, also the founders of boompa, gave a talk in San Francisco on their new site for comic enthusiasts. 

The attorney may not love comics as much as the speaker, who had been reading comics for the past 10 years, but the site may be of interest in studying how a social encyclopedia works.  Basically, the site is a wiki, a social encyclopedia.  Right now the most popular superhero is the Hulk, with Superman at number two.  The users are able to create superheros for themselves, and there are blog and discussion forums.  The users are able to edit any character, and see the history of the comics where the characters have appeared.  The users may add powers to the characters. 

The site was launched on December 10, 2006.  Since the launch, there have been 1.5 million hits on the site.  The founders plan to make money through advertisements.  The goal is to develop a niche market for comic lovers.
