On November 6, 2006, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich Rosati, PC’s offices hosted David Sifry, Founder and CEO, Technorati. Sifry spoke in Palo Alto, CA on his experiences as a serial entrepreneur and his founding of Technorati, which is a leading portal to the world of citizen-generated media.

Technorati is a real time search engine that tracks what people are talking about. It allows users to follow what people are thinking by entering terms on the site. This provides results on discussions about products, brands, conversations, and constant information changes.

Sifry has tracked over 57 million people who have blogs currently. The blogosphere is growing with 100,000 blogs per day worldwide. Technorati tracks people’s public statements, the statements people want others to hear. The ease of tools, such as broadband connections, mobile, makes blogging growth tremendous.
The blogosphere is growing in languages other than English, such as Chinese, Japanese, Farsi. In countries where views have been suppressed, blogging offers people a means to anonymous expression.

Technorati uses algorithms to track hyperlinks. Links to blogs are votes of attention though the quality of blogs are themselves difficult to measure. The number of links indicate the number of blog followers. A blog that has many links becomes authoritative.
