On November 6, 2006, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich Rosati, PC in Palo Alto, CA hosted a talk by Kay Luo, Direcotor of Corporate Communications at LinkedIn.

LinkedIn allowed people who did not have blogs to build a web presence. Everyone’s profile on LinkedIn can be web enabled for it to be found on the web through Google or other search engines. Many times, the profile is ranked at the top when a person’s name is typed in the search. The profile may include information on education and prior positions.

LinkedIn allowed the user to network efficiently. The most successful employees and business opportunities usually came from relationships, trusted networks. Connections included people the user worked with in prior jobs, universities attended. LinkedIn had a feature that showed the user a list of people, for example, who went to the same university at the same time as the user. The user could then see who he/she was connected with. The user was able to find out who his/her contacts knew.

LinkedIn was a tool for targeted marketing.
