Tom Finnegan gave an open house of the Life's Work Center on November 25, 2006. The Life's Work Center is a nonprofit that provides group counseling to those in career transition and looking for more than just a job.
The typical length of the program is 9 months, at 2 hours a week. The group uses What Color Is Your Parachute as a guide. There are 9 - 12 people in a group. The group may be split into 3 where each person shares personal achievements and finds the transferable skills from the stories. The stories may be taken from any place, time in life, whether from work, hobbies, education. The group may brainstorm on job portraits. The group may complete worksheets on fields of enthusiasm.

 

Some of the discussion topics include personal values, money, employment sectors, transferable skills, passions, right livelihood. Like a puzzle, the workshops piece by piece, each person's ideal job, field, with interviewing and life's work.
