Unlike technology and political professions, few attorneys have gone mainstream in the blogosphere, but there are a few popular ones that are not anonymous.
Many attorney blogs are careful not to mention any confidential information. Most attorneys blog for self expression such as the posts by The Wired GC, LegalTech.com, and Jonathan Wilson. David Munn, senior counsel at Fair Isaac Corporation began LegalTech.com in 2001. Jonathan Wilson is head of legal and corporate development at Web.com, Inc.
Along with Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s CEO Jonathan Schwartz, Sun's General Counsel, began a blog on the Sun site recently called the legal thing. Some of his entries include humor, detailed discussions on substantive areas of law such as tax and patents, and personal reflection on the life of a general counsel.
Other blogs found on corporate sites include posts at Cisco Systems, Inc., where Adam Golodner and Jeffrey Campbell are attorneys turned editors on the company's corporate blog. Recent posts include pieces on Web 2.0 and network security. On Dell, Inc.'s Direct2Dell blog, attorneys have written and responded to comments. Microsoft Corporation has an attorney who works on Standards Law.
