In the movie, former Vice President Al Gore discusses the affects of pollution on the earth’s atmosphere, the most vulnerable part of the earth’s ecological system. Global warming results when heat gets caught in the atmosphere. Pollution thickens the thin layer of atmosphere.
As carbon dioxide rises, glaciers disappear. This creates a water shortage, flooding from precipitation, and heat waves. The 10 hottest years occurred in the last 14 years, with 2005 being the hottest year. In 2006, 200 cities in the west set all time heat records.
Unrestricted fossil fuel burning may be the cause. Addressing the environmental issue requires a personal choice from everyone to use more efficient electricity, and cooperation from every nation. Gore points out that the United States and Australia have not ratified the Kyoto Protocol. Gore states that people cannot appreciate monetary wealth if there is no earth left. Doing the right things to preserve the earth creates jobs, and prevents the reemergence of diseases.
