 On September 29, 2006, Congress enacted the Security Fence Act (HR 6061) authorizing a construction of a 700 mile fence along the US – Mexico border to be completed by end of 2008. Under the bill, surveillance cameras will be posted along the Arizona border by Spring 2007. It will cost $6 million to construct, below the spending allocation. The fence may still leave 1300 miles along the border open. Senators voiced that border enforcement was an integral part of national security. |
