Networking for Entrepreneurs

On October 10, 2006, DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Carey sponsored a talk by Linda Holroyd of FountainBlue on networking for entrepreneurs. During the talk, Holroyd explained the importance of networking, strategies on networking tactics, and building partnerships with executives. She began the session with attendees introducing themselves. Participants included entrepreneurs, executives, graduate students, and legal professionals.

Holroyd defined networking as an active process of managing relationships, which can lead to better business traction, and greater likelihood of attracting leaders and customers. She mentioned that random chance was a factor in finding connections.

Networking involved understanding objectives in order to develop a plan to increase success probability. Networking for entrepreneurs is different because of the fast paced technology advancement, limited access to senior executives, and scarce resources.

Reputation matters when networking. Holroyd advised to be thankful and helpful. Networking was for life, not only for the objective of today.
