The attorney who practices meditation may learn to better communicate with others as a result of paying clearer attention to what exists in the present moment.

Meditation instructions at Spirit Rock in Woodacre, CA involve paying attention to breathing sensations. Participants sit still and pay attention to their body movements, thoughts, feelings. As their practices develop, the participants’ minds become calmer and clearer. Habitual patterns of moods, expectations, hopes, fears no longer sway living fully in the present moment.

When the mind is present, it is open to new understanding. While no one can manipulate the uncertainties of outer situations, insight meditation allows examination of the tendency of the mind to want things different than they are. When the mind expresses dislike, fear, anger, jealousy, forces of greed, confusion result. When things are seen as they are, letting go of unnecessary desires, the mind returns to balance. This leads to harmony in relations.
