In his book Hiding From Love, Dr. John Townsend writes understanding anger. Emotional pain comes from relatedness of the self to others. Anger is a good pain that tells someone he/she has a problem, and a need to solve a situation in a relationship.

Injuries that heal quickly are kept in short accounts. It takes mutual responsibility, not isolation to heal injuries such that parties do not continue living in the past. Life is seen in the present reality, not the past reality. When a person hides from relationships, such as through nervous talking by starting conversations or asking questions for no reason, the person is not able to make room for different, new relationships. To get out of isolation, the person must give up the anger which gives the illusion of power and safety.

Safe people are those who accept the good and bad in others. These people are aware of their own deficits.
