Beyond The Call

On September 27, 2006, the ninth annual United Nations Association Film Festival launched with the showing of Beyond the Call in San Francisco, CA. Directed by Adrian Belic, the documentary film exemplified how meeting people at their core transcended cultural and other barriers.

The three characters in the film demonstrated how they obtained access to restricted locations in order to distribute food, medical items, and other donated goods to those in need at war torn areas such as Afghanistan, Albania, Thailand, Rwanda, and the Philippines.

The men in the film never accepted funds from those who had a religious agenda. Only pure money with the intention to fight international dignity for all people around the world was accepted. Unlike those who approached others with only business propositions, the integrity the men carried in personality were recognized across language barriers. This kept the men from being taken advantage of, such as requiring them to give bribes in order to carry out their missions.
Though the men could not help everyone in need, they gave hope to people, which was more important than a jacket or blanket. Hope allowed people to learn they were part of a cycle of humanity that had not forgotten them.
