On September 5, 2006 DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary hosted the New Tech September 2006 Meetup in East Palo Alto, CA.

During the Meetup, a representative from Zazzle.com, Inc. (Zazzle) gave a talk on Web 2.0. Zazzle allows users to create, publish, and generate content for commerce.

Users can design products for buy or sell by going to a “Create a Product” section. Users are able to create products using images on the site or creating a product API that is able to take text, content, and other digital formats from anywhere on the web and put the items on products such as t-shirts. Users are also able to customize content in a marketplace by using Ajax (shorthand for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, a web development technique for creating interactive web applications) tools to add tags and images for uniqueness. However, to guard against intellectual property infringement, users are not able to republish remixed designs, and may only purchase such designs for personal use.
The Zazzle pulse feature allows the user to see recently published and shipped products, including reviews and comments by other users. Ajax is used to check every second the new content added and retrieved from the site.

What differentiates Zazzle from its competitors is its ability to manufacture every product (i.e. poster, t-shirt) a user makes and ship it within 24 hours. There appears to be no scarcity because Zazzle is able to handle physical, not only visual products. A seller is able to upload unique images without worrying about inventory, making the supply of products infinite. People can customize a storefront to sell their products versus just innovate products for their own use. They can use the Zazzle panel to share content through a Flash slide show on other web sites.
