DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary hosted the New Tech September 2006 Meetup in East Palo Alto, CA on September 5, 2006.

During the Meetup, a representative from VideoEgg, Inc. gave a talk on the web site that allowed people to take videos off devices such as cameras and cell phones and place them onto web sites and blogs.

A piece of software sits on the user’s personal computer and saves videos into formats such as .mov and .avi. The files may then be dragged onto a web site by transcoding video to Flash. Videos are set at 5 minutes. This guards against intellectual property infringement. To guard against offensive content, the company rates each video with a content rating tool.
The product has editing tools that allow the user to change the start and end points of the videos. It takes 2-3 minutes to upload the videos versus 20-30 minutes that other service sites may require. Once the clip is uploaded, the video may be played only on the company’s player, but the html code may be placed on other sites versus one of the company’s customer sites.

People who benefit from the technology are those who take videos for sale. The company generates revenues with a P2P model. It reserves the rights to place ads after the end of videos. If the user does not want to allow for ads, the user may pay a charge. The company’s customers are mostly news sites such as AOL.
