Here are some definitions of words commonly found in license contracts:
ASP SERVICES: means Application Service Provider Services including access to software applications provided from a centrally located facility to third parties on a rental, subscription or other revenue-generating basis.
SHALL: means that the definition is an absolute requirement.
MUST NOT: means that the definition is an absolute prohibition.
SHOULD: means that there may exist valid reasons in particular circumstances to ignore a particular item, but the full implications must be understood and carefully weighed before deciding.
LIMITED PRODUCTION PRODUCTS: shall be “Alpha” or “Beta” products.
NOT RECOMMENDED: means that there may exist valid reasons in particular circumstances when the particular behavior is acceptable, but the full implications should be understood and the case carefully weighed before implementing any behavior.
MAY: means that an item is optional.
