Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen displays irony and realism. Like every day life at the workplace, it exposes foolishness, hypocrisy, and self-delusion.

Like the engagement of Darcy and Elizabeth, where the marriage was likely the richest emotionally, intellectually, and monetarily out of all the marriages in the book, there is an implied message that the beginning is not always a predictor of the end.

Elizabeth finds her man immediately, but Darcy and Elizabeth had to undergo self-discovery before they could really understand each other. This is analogous to the interaction of people at the workplace, where someone’s pride may provoke prejudices on others at first impressions.
The distressing point is that sometimes people do not honestly recognize the strengths and weaknesses of others as Elizabeth and Darcy did. Sometimes the inability to accept the whole person leads to quick rejections that affect careers. There is much irony when the one who volunteers opinions when asked for feedback by management might get terminated, while the one who stays silent is able to stay though he quietly is the one who voices the most opinions against authority. There is irony when the one who achieves the highest raise is not necessarily the one who gets to stay because he happens to focus his responsibilities only in the division that is up for sale, while the one coasts with a low evaluation gets to stay because he has generalist abilities.

Pride and Prejudice reminds one not to be overpowered by impressions because they pass soon pass away.
