For attorneys working with developers on open source technology licensing, they might want to read up on Krugle. Krugle is a private company that is venture funded. It is a provider of open source search. For instance, the technology may be used for searching source code and technical papers.

Krugle’s search software is based on open source projects such as Apache Lucene from the Apache Software Foundation. Used in many back-end search offerings, Apache Lucene is written in 100% pure Java. Apache Lucene serves as a text search engine library and focuses on searching and indexing.

Krugle assists developers when they hunt for code and technical information. The company’s vision is to index source code, technical terms, and white papers for software programmers from code depositories such as Sourceforge.net, Apache, Javadocs, and Wikipedia.
