Mount Rushmore began with Doane Robinson, a state historian. Then Gutzon Borglum gave it human form when he created the monument to group four leaders together in Black Hills, South Dakota.
The four former presidents carved in stone: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt. Washington is known as the commander of the Revolutionary army. Jefferson is known as the author of the Declaration of Independence. Lincoln is known as the leader of the Union restoration. Roosevelt is prominent for his preservation of national parks.
Mount Rushmore is a blend of art and nature. Upon reading the bios of the former presidents during a hike around the park, one also sees that Mount Rushmore is also a reminder of how one may be capable of leadership, and knowledge in any field without any formal education. The former presidents were able to be attorneys and scientists without having attended universities or obtained graduate degrees.
Thus, even when the highest rung might be reached in the legal career ladder, one should not forget the other fields that one may enter even without having a degree in that area. Many general counsel become chief financial officers, chief executive officers. They enter into other business roles such as corporate development and sales. Mount Rushmore inspires one to remember possibilities.
