Steps to reduce stress from Fran S. Wickner, PhD, MFT:
1. Do nothing which leads you to lie after being done.
2. Eliminate caffeine. Chocolate has caffeine.
3. Be prepared to wait. Bring a book to read instead of being angry.
4. Use people's names to personalize interactions.
5. Relax your standards. Realize people are selfish and are looking out for their own interests not yours so do not take what they do or say personally.
6. Disconnect electronically.
7. Get rid of clutter.
8. Write your feelings and thoughts down to clarify perspectives.
9. Mitigate fears by exposing yourself to fears.
10. Live one day at a time.
11. Talk out problems to clear your mind.
12. Improve your appearance.
13. Eliminate destructive self-talk.
14. Do one thing at a time.
15. Do the unpleasant tasks early and get them over with.
16. Count to 1,000 before doing or saying anything that will make things worst.
