Warrior of the Light by Paulo Coelho details the characteristics of the warrior.
A warrior is someone who is able to value a child's eyes because the warrior is able to look at the world without bitterness. The warrior looks at a person to see if that person can be trusted as a child would.
A warrior fights for something believed in, and chooses his/her enemies. He/she knows what he/she is capable of and does not respond to insults from people. As a result, the warrior will not tire needlessly.
The warrior does not rely on strength alone. He/she uses the opponent's energy too. Enthusiasm, training, and experience are required to win fights.
The warrior is not ashamed to take temporary withdrawals. It is not winning or losing a single battle that matters, but how the war ends. The warrior may feign weakness such that the enemy attacks too soon. The ability to surprise one's opponent is the key to victory. The warrior perseveres and returns when there is a change in weather.
People hide their fear of loneliness behind an air of independence. The warrior does not take appearances and remains silent when people try to impress. The warrior uses these occasions to correct his/her own faults. Other people make excellent mirrors.
The warrior has hope especially in bettering him/herself. As soon as he/she makes a decision, he/she does not doubt the chosen action. He/she does not postpone decision making.
Strategic mistakes occur when: (1) acting prematurely, (2) letting opportunities slip. The warrior keeps his/her heart free of hatred in order to use his/her opponents to test his/her persistence and abilities to make decisions.
Even when the warrior lacks faith, he/she continues. As he/she moves forward, faith returns.
