Stress leads to stress induced states of mind where experiences get personalized instead of just happen. The demands of daily life from the worry of events that happened the day before, anticipation of future difficulties, and pressures of current project, narrow the awareness of nature, and disconnect attorneys from what they are capable of. Habits may then distort perceptions, and attorneys find their lives less than what they hoped or planned.

By taking the time to quiet the mind, attorneys are able to understand actual events clearly. This leads to compassion, less judgment, and flexibility when making decisions. Not paying attention or being present in the moment limits what one notices, which in turn, limits what one thinks. Errors and misjudgments occur from divided concentration. Meditation offers a less attached view of events. Meditation is about being fully in the moment, not any external correctness. In meditation, the focus is on the breath or the body. When thoughts come to the mind, they are simply noticed, but the focus is returned to the breath or body.

Awareness becomes larger than the thoughts, and thus can contain the thoughts. Silence from suppressing the mind distances people from institutional identities and facilitates collaboration. Instead of just looking at things, which requires directed intentions, people see whatever is present in their visual awareness.

Calm allows for reflection versus reflexive reactions to emotions or confusion. Less rushing helps one recognize commonality with other people, and release the energies required to sustain separateness. The ability to see work in a generous context deepens appreciation of the significance of the work.
