The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), a non-profit decentralized community of developers, authored the Apache licenses. The latest version is the Apache Software License version 2.0 (ALv2).

ALv2 is a free software license, but the license is not GNU General Public License (GPL) compatible. The copyleft concept does not apply because the license allows use and distribution of source code in open source or object code format, and the ALv2 has certain patent termination cases that the GPL does not require.

Like most open source license agreements, the ALv2 terms and conditions require attribution notices, and do not come with any warranties, representations, and indemnities, and limits the liabilities of the licensor.
All software developed within ASF belongs to ASF members. Only individuals (not corporations or other organizations) may become ASF members.
