Wiki is a type of website that allows users to add, remove, or edit content. The term comes from the Hawaiian word for "quick". This ease of interaction makes a wiki a tool for collaboration.
The most popular collaborative site is Wikipedia, a multilingual web based encyclopedia. Unlike some references, which are updated by professional writers and editors, the Wikipedia is written by volunteers.
Wiki content can be misleading, as users may add incorrect information to the wiki page since it is a community oriented publishing approach that does not require the accuracy standards of professional writers or editors. Most articles can be changed, edited, updated at any time by any user.
Similar to blogs that allow anyone to comment, most wikis allow completely unrestricted access. People are able to contribute to the site without necessarily having to undergo a process of 'registration', as usually required by other types of interactive websites such as public message forums or chat sites.
