In recent M & A news, Oracle Corporation (Oracle) announced April 12, 2006 that it acquired Portal Software, Inc. (Portal) in an all cash deal for $4.90/share or $220 million.

Portal is a Cupertino, CA headquartered provider of billing and revenue management solutions for the global communications and media markets. It has been reported that the acquisition will help extend Oracle’s offerings in the communications market.

Oracle has been leading a wave of consolidation in the business software industry with noteworthy acquisitions such as PeopleSoft, Inc., Seibel Systems, Inc., Oblix, and Sleepycat Software.
Portal was delisted in December 2004 from Nasdaq following the departures of several executives that year, and after its request for additional time to get up to date with its SEC filings were rejected by market authorities.
