Research has shown that the chances of someone getting a job are 80% great when someone else introduces one to the right hiring decision maker.
Many feel uncomfortable networking to get a job. Think of it as a challenge to do something uncomfortable.
The true objective of networking is "what help can one offer the other person", followed by "what would the other person need to know about oneself in order to offer help in return".
Foster each relationship by offering help and sending a clear message on what people can do in return to help.
A person adds people to his/her network by reviewing the people he/she has contacted, the people he/she has offered help, and the people who are not aware of help he/she needs.
To network, choose a comfortable way of meeting new people each week. Challenge assumptions and judgments about people. Observe others as they talk. Notice body language and orientation. Be approachable by exhibiting conversation possibilities.
