Attract attention to be known. People decide whether to be favorably disposed to someone by the way a person looks. Positive virtues such as intelligence, politeness, honesty, are attributed to good looking people. Using effort to look good shows control.
What someone wears can stimulate conversation. For instance, accessories, logos on shirts, can tell a story about where someone has travelled or went to school.
Besides wardrobe, speech also attributes to attractiveness. In conversations, the "thank you" may be a simple flat acknowledgement that stops the flow of information. Topics of conversation known as ice breakers determine whether one can build a relationship with others.
For instance, a talk about the weather is not really a discussion on the weather. It is a disguise to get people to approach.
When entering a room, do not just go in and go to the corner. At the entrance, take in the room layout. Have the power to move through an entire room versus concentrating on any one person. Have a plan on what to get out of the event. Compliment people, and let others make introductions and referrals.
Do not concentrate on the food. Someone who congregates by the food or the bar does not gain social presence. Do not drink too much. No one likes a drunk. People watch and remember. Drink water.
