In the work environment, a corporate attorney runs into many situations where others may express rage such as when negotiating a contract or when discussing a litigious issue. De-escalate the rage to keep a conversation rational. While it is always easy to be quick to argue, the more honorable person is one who is able to keep control and avoid conflict.
Opportunities that may materialize had a person been less angry could pass by. Doors that may open because of skill or knowledge, remain closed because others fear being exposed to excessive anger. Mysteriously, life has a way of evening the score. Angry people give life the means by which they are ultimately weakened.
Avoiding conflict requires being quick to listen, and slow to speak. It requires digging beneath the surface to understand exactly why another person is upset. While everyone can be angry, whether to express anger in a way that will be harmful involves a choice.
