No matter how prepared we are in life, there will always be unforeseen challenges. There was a time in work life when an employee would interview for initial entry into a company and would be set for employment for the rest of life. Those days are gone. With M & A activity, companies unable to obtain needed financing, sometimes we may lose a job through no fault of our own.
Perhaps success does not involve preventing undesired results, the circumstances that cannot be controlled, but accepting them as facts, and channeling energies towards developing ourselves to respond to ordeals so that when adverse situations do arise, we are able to trust that circumstances will ultimately turn out alright.
One freedom that cannot be taken away is our power to choose our attitudes. Attitudes determine survival and outcomes more so than people or events. We must always know what we choose, and evaluate the consequences before making decisions. We must remind ourselves that we are able to choose differently each time.
Resilience comes from risk taking. Failure means not meeting a certain standard. It is not necessarily a tragedy. It may be a sign of hope.
Grief is a collection of inconsistent feelings. We want to let go of pain, but we want to hold on to the object of loss. In order to be free of grief, we must distance ourselves from the loss.
Experience enough failures to know that grief eventually goes away. There is something more compelling and valuable than staying with pain. View life’s events as opportunities, not problems that need to be overcome. Be awake and enjoy the present moment, not obsess over perceived dangers such that we are in constant anxiety.
With patience, clarity will finally come. What we want may not be what we need. Stay free from judgment in order to observe possibilities and take advantage of new career options that show up as opposed to being distracted or preoccupied.
